Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Alex Ryvchin has blamed the federal education minister for his “lack of leadership” resulting in university vice chancellors being at odds in their approach to pro-Palestine protests on campuses. Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Alex Ryvchin has blamed the federal Education Minister’s"lack of leadership" for universities differing in their stance on the pro-Palestine protests on campuses.
Speaking to Sky News Australia host Chris Kenny on Monday evening, Mr Ryvchin said differing university stances on the issue stemmed from a “lack of leadership from the very top”. Picture: Sky News Australia “The government needs to set the guardrails on what’s reasonable and unreasonable conduct, and when there’s an absence of leadership it allows the vice chancellors to go campus by campus, each with their own approach," Mr Ryvchin said.
Pro Palestine protesters continue to occupy an Arts building at Melbourne University. Any individual who refuses to comply will be subject to the relevant consequences, be they internal disciplinary action, referral to police, or both.
