The Alpine School District has agreed to recognize Samantha Corey, who passed away from cancer in January, at American Fork High School's graduation ceremony.
"She was such a light," Samantha's mom, Kimberly Corey said. "When we were looking at a timeline with her lifespan, our goal with her medical team was to be able to get her healthy enough to be able to last as long as graduation. She was just three months short." School administrators have historically applied the policy about student memorials to graduation ceremonies. We also have procedures in place for administrators to request exceptions to policy. This morning the District Leadership Team reviewed and approved an exception in this case.
