D.C. Police broke up an encampment early Wednesday morning, May 8, 2024, by pro-Palestinian protesters who occupied George Washington University's campus.
Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser avoided testifying before Congress after DC police cleared out an anti-Israeli encampment atDemonstrators were arrested on charges of trespassing and some with assault against law enforcement. Washington Insider Armstrong Williams joined The National Desk Monday morning to discussed why it took so long to dismantle the college encampment and why DC police refused to clear out protesters.
"If they were chanting anti-rhetoric about Black folks and it had to deal with race, it would have been a different scenario," said Williams. Police finally arrested 33 at GWU as pro-Palestinian protest encampments were dismantled Friday at the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, hours after police tear-gassed demonstrators and took down a similar camp at the University of Arizona.
