Lehi High School teacher hospitalized after incident during welding class

Sat, May 11th 2024 at 6:39 PMA teacher at Lehi High School was hospitalized after an incident that occurred during a welding class on Friday morning.

Alpine School District officials said no students were injured in the "tragic, very unfortunate accident," which no other details were provided on.Lehi Police and Lehi Fire immediately responded to the incident, and the area was secured. It was reported in the agriculture building, which is where some of career and technical education classes are taught, and is detached from the main building on campus.

District officials added they will continue to work with first responders "to ensure school community is safe and informed."Around 11:40 this morning, there was an accident that occurred in the welding shop in the Ag building. All students were removed from the classroom, and there were no student injuries. One of our teachers was injured and has been transported to a hospital.

Due to the need for emergency responders to have access, the school was briefly placed in HOLD status, which means that students remained in their classrooms, while classes continued as normal. The HOLD has now been lifted, and students were released for lunch. We have a counseling team that is currently working with students who were in the classroom and witnessed the accident. We will also have counseling support for any other students or adults who need additional support.
