Everyday crossing guards keep our kids safe on busy streets before and after school. It's a job legendary crossing guard Janice Parker has loved for 31 years. At the end of this month, she'll take the crosswalk into retirement after her remarkable career.
Janice sort of stumbled upon her career as a crossing guard 31 years ago when she dropped her own kids off to school at Park Lane Elementary. "There was a crossing guard crossing kids and she was very pregnant, and I felt bad for her, " she recalls. "So I parked my car, and I went over and asked if I could help. She said sure."
No doubt Janice will be missed. Laura Meier, a Park Lane crossing guard, has loved working with Janice over the last four years. "I think she's awesome. I think she's irreplaceable." Laura also adds Janice makes the job fun.
