The scammer used audio of children screaming and crying during the phone call after telling the parents their child had been kidnapped, according to the superintendent of the West Shore School District.

Dan Gleiter | dgleiter@pennlive.comImagine receiving a phone call from a school in your district and hearing a voice say your child has been kidnapped with audible screaming and crying in the background. That is what happened to one parent in the West Shore School District on Wednesday, according to a letter sent by district Superintendent Todd B. Stoltz.

However, this was all part of an organized scam. The scammer used a voice recording of a child’s voice and crying sounds to make the call seem as realistic as possible. The Lower Allen Township Police Department included the following tips for anyone who might experience a similar scam call situation:
