A major Melbourne university has confirmed it will crack down on anti-Israel harassment on and off its campus after calling in police to investigate aggressive activists as social media is aflame with threatening slogans towards students.
Shadow education minister Sarah Henderson spoke to Sky News host Chris Kenny on Wednesday to confirm she had spoken to the university vice-chancellor Sharon Pickering about the “disturbing” incident before being informed live on television Monash would also be targeting online harassment against Jewish students.
“So police were called in and they broke up that group. There's no doubt, this young Jewish student was being, vilified, harassed, intimidated. In the last week, hostilities have ramped up within the campus as protesters clashed with demonstrators supporting Israel while social media has been rife with anti-Zionism.
“How many of you feel it in your hearts when you got the news that it happened? How many of you felt the euphoria? Allahu Akbar, how many of you felt it?” “And yet this university has not banned the likes of this joker , along with others like Randa Abdel-Fattah, who came on to the campus, of course, and was encouraging children to chant ‘Intifada’.
