A Perth school reeling from the death of a student who stabbed a stranger before being fatally shot by police has been sent into a frenzy following the circulation of terrifying online messages, later confirmed as a hoax. Police descended on Rossmoyne Senior High School in the city’s southern suburbs on Tuesday morning after the messages were shared on a forum used by teachers and students.
Police swarm Perth school over new safety threat. Part of one message said: “The reason I threw up gang signs in my photos is cause I always planned to shoot up at the school”. The messages were a hoax, according to the school’s principal, but they were enough for some parents to keep their children home from class. “My son isn’t at school today and a lot of his friends, they’re frightened. They woke up and read these messages — we’re all concerned,” one parent said.
