In North East ISD, conservative groups that made inroads in 2022 appeared to be trailing badly in the five races they targeted.

Voters also appeared to be backing an incumbent in the Alamo Colleges District, over a young challenger. The board also had one seat filled by default after only one candidate filed earlier this year.of the district’s seven school board seats in 2022 and came close to taking a third. Several months later, thein District 2 left the board split evenly between those with close ties to the administration and insurgents who want change.

Trailing Shelton was consultant Jacqueline Klein and retired public school administrator Rhonda Rowland. Trailing her were Dick “Raz” Rasmussen with 39% of the vote in early voting, and Chris Evans, with 6.5%. Steve Hilliard, who is backed by Parents United for Freedom and Texas Family Action, was trailing his challenger, retired educator Terri Chidgey, who had 65% of the votes in early voting.

Last May, incumbents Yolanda Garza-Lopez and Pete Bernal lost their seats in an election decided by fewer than 2,000 voters. Garza-Lopez was first elected in 2008 and Bernal in 2020. Even when on the board, the pair advocated for a change to the voting method.
