The university said it has no plans to increase police presence after demonstrations in New York and Los Angeles captured international attention

Demonstrations against the Israel-Hamas war at San Francisco State University remain peaceful in the aftermath of police crackdowns at multiple New York college campuses and clashes between demonstrators at UCLA.

While those events captured international attention, SFSU protesters and officials said Wednesday the campus has been calm. “It gets cold in San Francisco, it certainly got cold last night. But the people of Gaza and Palestine have been camping out in way worse conditions for six months. It’s important, for all of us, to put our bodies on the line, even in this mild sense,” she said.

SFSU spokesperson Kent Hockensmith told The Examiner that the university will respect the rights of students to peacefully protest and will work to keep them and the entire campus community safe. At this time, there are no plans to increase security or police presence on campus. San Francisco wants to make it easier to gather in the streets "San Francisco is alive when our streets are filled with festivals, markets, and community events,” Mayor London Breed said

Students are asking for more transparency from the university or they would camp out until their demands are met. With no official response from the university or university president Lynn Mahoney, there’s no clear end in sight.
