The audit, conducted last school year and made public this week, followed two recent crashes that involved Pre-K 4 SA buses.

Pre-K 4 SA is overhauling how it screens bus drivers after a city audit found the program wasn't confirming they met basic qualifications. Pre-K 4 SA, the city's sales tax-funded preschool program, contracts with Star Shuttle to transport about 2,000 students to and from its four campuses around San Antonio. There are 23 drivers.

Star Shuttle now finds candidates, ensures they have commercial driver licenses and conducts an initial background check.
