Hundreds of New York Police Department officers have cleared out pro-Palestine Columbia University activists after they locked themselves inside the historic Hamilton Hall.Hundreds of New York Police Department officers in riot gear stormed Columbia University and cleared out student activists who took over a building on campus.
Student activists have been camped at Columbia since April 17 when the university’s president Minouche Shafik went to congress to address anti-Semitism on campus. Columbia officials worked to shut down the encampment, with more than 100 student protestors been arrested since the protest began. Video footage shows officers in riot gear - with pepper spray and zip-ties - using an elevated ramp to climb into the building.Police warned students at Columbia’s Morningside Campus to stay inside moments before they stormed the building.has requested our assistance to take back their campus, which has seen disturbing acts of violence, forms of intimidation & destruction of property.
"NYPD presence in our neighbourhood endangers our entire community. Armed police entering our campus places students and everyone else on campus at risk," a statement read.
