The group has a number of responsibilities, and its main focus includes identifying buildings for closure or consolidation.I accepted an appointment to this task force in good faith on behalf of 4,500 Columbus City Schools educators, with a commitment to ensuring that the physical resources of our District are prepared to meet the needs of our city’s fast-growing population.
The work of the Superintendent's Community Facilities Task Force has always been rooted in monitoring District enrollment and building usage, capacity, and facility conditions, supported by the CCS Board Policy on school closure. We were transparent in the CCS Board's adopted Statement of Facts for the recent levy, stating that, regardless of the levy outcomes, the District must focus on consolidating buildings to reduce overall building cost.
That means we must focus on building and renovating the schools our community deserves and taking offline those schools that do not meet our high expectations.Issue of Report: The Task Force will issue a comprehensive report by the beginning of June 2024, providing recommendations regarding whether specific school and administrative buildings in the District should be closed or consolidated.
Utilization of Board Policy 7105: Determining which schools are candidates for closure will be based on the 14 factors listed in Board Policy 7105, ensuring a balanced and objective assessment.
