The court heard that Ms Vasylenko, who is a trained teacher and council worker, was without previous convictions

A mother of one who travelled to Ireland with her mother and young son after war broke out in Ukraine has said that she will carry the guilt of reversing over and accidentally killing a man for the rest of her life.

Mr Nesterov was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3.45am. Ms Vasylenko had raised the alarm. She admitted being intoxicated at the scene. Dt Garda Breenan said staff asked Vasylenko to return to her room as medics sought to resuscitate Mr Nesterov. She was later visited in the room by gardai and she voluntarily gave gardai the clothes she had been wearing when the incident occurred.

In the second interview she admitted to being very intoxicated at the time of the offence. She said that she didn’t really remember what had occurred on the night as she was intoxicated. . A victim impact statement from the widow of Mr Nesterov was given to Judge Helen Boyle. Ms Hyland added that her client was extremely conscious of the extraordinary pain and shame she has caused to her law abiding family. Her mother is caring for her young son.
