Rookie Angge Poyos lifted University of Santo Tomas past defending champion De La Salle, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-15, to secure the last twice-to-beat semifinal incentivein the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday night, April 27, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The España squad finished with a 12-2 card in the standings to settle behind top seed National University Lady Bulldogs. Prime Rookie of the Year candidate also wound up with 290 points in the two-round elimination, just two points shy of overtaking fellow rookie Casiey Dongallo of University of the East to become the highest scoring rookie. Shevana Laput tallied a game-high 26 points to pace the Taft-based squad which went for naught as it ran out of steam in the last two sets.
