Everyone with a modicum of interest in the NFL Draft was aware that he was going to be one of the first cornerbacks off the draft board and when the Eagles actually made him the first with the 22nd overall pick,When the picks started coming off the board at 7 p.m. Friday night, Roseman and the Eagles were in a more aggressive mood and mode.
“Probably didn’t win on any of those charts that are going on the internet for sure, but we felt like it was the right thing to do for us,” Roseman said.“I think this guy, he’s all ball all the time,” Roseman said. “When he came in here, you see his one track mind: ‘How am I going to improve at football, how am I going to work at football.’ I think our fans are going to love this guy. I think this guy has an incredible skillset. I think most of the league thought this guy would go . ...
Some fine players were available at pick 86, too. But the Eagles didn’t make that selection either. Instead, Roseman dealt the pick to the San Francisco 49ers, who took Kansas’ Dominick Puni, an offensive lineman with the ability to play guard and tackle. That would have been a popular pick with the fans who know the Eagles need a right guard now and a right tackle to replace Lane Johnson later.
Roseman, to be sure, was just as excited about this pick as he was Mitchell and DeJean even though he knows the Eagles took on a prospect who is also a bit of a project.
