From a 'code red' alarm to 'CLOSE' procedure, each school has its own way of dealing with emergency situations

Earlier this week, a teenage girl was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing two teachers and a pupil. The incident took place at Ammanford’s Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Wales on Wednesday 24 April at the end of the morning break.As the incident unfolded, the school issued a ‘code red’ alarm and was put into lockdown for four hours, according to reports.

Does every school have an emergency procedure? All schools have their own emergency protocols that are called upon in different situations. Darren Northcott, from the NASUWT teachers’ union, told inews that every school has these procedures to ‘keep everyone safe until the danger has passed’.
