Several universities have been forced to go hybrid or remote with parents who now want their tuition money refunded. Lawmakers also want federal funding pulled from schools that allow this.Open the Books CEO Adam Andrzejewski joined The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat to break it down. “I think the American taxpayer would be disturbed to know that we're funding these universities,” he said. “The American taxpayer puts more into these elite universities like the Ivy League, Stanford and Northwestern, than do parents and students on undergraduate student tuition.”
These universities also have massive endowments and these funds get big tax breaks. Andrzejewski says the Ivy League University's, Standford University and Northwestern University's endowments have risen by $65 billion in the past 5 years. “At Open the Books, we did an audit over the course of the past five years and these colleges are more federal contractors than they are educators. They collect more on federal contracts and grants than they do on undergraduate student tuition,” Andrzejewski said. “For example, at Columbia, over the course of last five years, they've collected a stunning amount of money from taxpayers nearly $6 billion.
