At least three Carlsbad public schools were placed on lockdown Thursday morning, and several more schools went into secure-campus mode after someone called in a threat, Carlsbad police and school officials said. The lockdowns lasted about an hour and were lifted just before 10:30 a.m. Police officials said on social media that there had been 'a phoned-in unsubstantiated threat at Carlsbad High School,' and that schools were locked down as a precaution while police investigated.
' Carlsbad High sent a note to parents saying that the decision to lock down was made in collaboration with police and was done immediately after a threat was called in. 'The threat is not on campus, but based on the context of the situation, directed the site to go on lockdown,' the message to parents read. The Carlsbad Unified School District also posted a note on its website saying that Carlsbad police were 'on scene and investigating.
