James Kidd fled the scene after knocking down Sadik Elshani when he drove on the wrong side of the road in Dundee.

A sports teacher left a pedestrian for dead after causing a hit and run crash when he was driving on the wrong side of a dual carriageway.

Kidd, 74, who has a previous conviction for drink driving from 2008, was banned from the road for two years and fined £600 by Sheriff John Rafferty. "However, he was unsuccessful and was struck by the vehicle and knocked onto the bonnet before being thrown onto the road. He watched as the vehicle continued to speed off.

Solicitor David Duncan, defending, said: "He began his journey on the correct side of the carriageway. His ultimate destination was Hunter Street. "The court will be concerned that these two offences occurred in a relatively short period of time. He will be disqualified and will have to re-sit his test.
