Local junior and senior men spent 8 months in the program refining various skills of etiquette, community service, and networking.) - A distinguished group of young men donned their gloves and tuxedos Sunday evening at the 44th annual Le Beautillion Militarie.
“They are ten young men, juniors and seniors from local area high schools and their belles are local,” said Jia Johnson-Okeke. ““We have boys from the community- we host leadership, workshops and community service and philanthropic giving through a series of about 8 months and this is the culminating event.”
This year’s theme was an ode to 50 years of hip-hop. FOX10 News spoke to two of the young men impacted by the program. ‘We learned about keeping clean and grooming ourselves,” said Josh Green. “We’ve learned how to respect each other more, I’ve learned to look at people in the eye- project my voice out.”
“Being in Jack and Jill allows you to get out of your comfort zone- it allows you to involve with the community and with your brothers,” added Julius Mitchell.“If we show up five minutes late, we have to do push ups and they’re double time push-ups which means it’s one, two three and that’s one push up,” explained Green.“After I graduate high school, I’m actually attending Howard University in DC. I need to know how to talk to people to start networking to build my future career,” said Green.
