Perfectly good food was going in the trash, so an Indiana school stuffed insulated backpacks with take-home meals for hungry kids

As part of a pilot program, 20 students at Woodland Elementary School in Elkhart went home on Friday with an insulated backpack stuffed with eight frozen meals to help them get through the weekend."We had to start a little small because we weren't sure if we would have enough food," said Natalie Bickel, the supervisor of student services for Elkhart Community Schools."The kids were thrilled, staff were crying, kids were so excited.

The University of Notre Dame athletic department and the South Bend Cubs minor league baseball team also donate unused food."With the school we combine their food with other food we've rescued from some of the best chefs in our region," Z said."A meal could consist of a vegetable from the school, protein from the University of Notre Dame and a starch from the Four Winds Casino.

Hey! Smart! Who ever thought of that is a hero to hungry kids. In our land of plenty, many children, elderly, and disabled go hungry. This should NEVER happen. But if ConCon makes its Fascist changes in the Constitution, we will have people dying of malnutrition/starvation.

The innate drive to preserve indefinitely and eat stale food masking its bad taste with sugar, salt, herbs and spice is by and large European culture imposed on the rest of the world.

Why are they calling these children hungry? Is because they don't live in the suburbs 😑😑😑

Been doing this for years in my community - called Blessings in a Backpack.

A much better idea than Mike Obama’s plan to starve the children at school!
