State officials had ordered Riverside County district to drop its parent-notification policy — and administrators were going comply — but school board rebels.

The Murrieta Valley Board of Education has defied a state order — and countermanded its own staff — by holding on to a policy that requires parents to be notified when students change their gender identity at school.

10, 2023, with the expectation was that developing an internal process to carry out the policy would 'take a few weeks to develop.' But it noted such a process 'has never been developed, and as such, the policy has not been implemented nor enforced.' In an interview, board member Pardue said that, early on, Supt. Ward Andrus had advised the board to move slowly while the inevitable litigation elsewhere worked itself out.
