COLUMBIA, Ala. - A familiar last name to the Wiregrass football coaching scene, especially at Houston County, is taking over the reins of the Lions program.
Tanner left Houston County back in 2021 after two seasons serving under his dad, taking a role at Daleville for one year as head softball coach before a trip up north to Marion County and Brilliant High School, where he served as their head football, boys basketball and softball coach during the 2023-24 season.
Following in the steps of his father at Houston County won’t be easy, with Chip at the Lions’ helm in two separate stints from 1997-2001 and then again in 2020-21, helping the program to a 41-37 record during those seven seasons and three straight region titles from 1999-2001.
