Nicole Manns and Jonathon Glodo are the parents of a Baxter Elementary student who was allegedly assaulted by a school employee.ANCHORAGE, Alaska - In the aftermath of police reports alleging that 32-year-old Juwan Harris, a former school employee, assaulted a child at Baxter Elementary School, the fourth-grade student’s parents spoke out Thursday, saying school leaders did not immediately contact them after the incident on Valentine’s Day of this year.
“So my son came down, and that’s when Mr. Harris grabbed him by the hoodie,” said Nicole Manns – the 10-year-old’s mother – relaying what she said police told her, “threw him up against the building, shoved his fingers in his throat, screaming in his face, ‘I don’t care if I lose my job, you are going to listen to me.’”
The boy’s parents said they are upset with both Harris and the school, adding that administrators waited more than three hours to let them know what happened. Glodo said he called police himself, and both he and his wife feel the assault charge the city brought against Harris is warranted. “We conduct a preliminary investigation before notifying our community partners such as law enforcement. Not all incidents are criminal in nature and need law enforcement involvement,” ASD spokesperson Corey Allen Young wrote. “In regards to this incident, an employee and student at Baxter Elementary witnessed the incident in the morning. They reported it school administrators who immediately began the preliminary investigation.
