This session is led by The Period Purse, an organization that works to create menstrual equity by ensuring sustainable access to period products for all, and by ending the stigma associated with periods through education and advocacy. Period poverty is a serious public health issue that has been overlooked for too long. When we say period poverty, we're referring to the thousands of women who do not have sufficient access to menstrual products, especially due to the high cost of these items. Some studies estimate that the average woman will spend about $6,000 on period products throughout their life - for someone already struggling with being able to afford food, that's a heavy burden.

Unfortunately, when women can't afford the menstrual products they need, it can become a serious health risk - for example, using menstrual products for too long increases the risk of infections. It can also result in women staying home from work or school.
