Work Life Balance,Anita Hess,Wellbeing

As someone who 'always has eight balls in the air', acclaimed author, academic, Indigenous literacy advocate and keen marathon runner Dr Anita Hess is learning to tell herself it's OK to free up time to be present with herself.

A proud member of the Wiradjuri nation, Dr Anita Heiss AM is one of Australia's most prolific authors.

Anita shares the importance of unwinding to stay present, switching off as a freelancer, and her process for celebrating wins. How I stay present in the moment…I've always got eight balls in the air, but I can only be present to what's in the moment. That said, I think the longest I've gone is about three days without opening my laptop and I think that's because I'm a workaholic.I think when you're single, people think you've got more time to do nice things. And yes, I do have facials and massages and all that sort of thing.

I'll also think about the list of goals and the plans that I have for the year and focus on all the good things ahead.Dr Amy Thunig has had a big couple of years. With a bit more time to rest, they share an ambitious baking goal for 2024 and a handy weekly check-in for partners and kids.People can be impressed with your publications list or whatever, but they're not impressed when all you do is talk negatively about yourself.I know that I can write a book.
