The average price of unleaded petrol has hit 201.4 cents per litre, rising by 9.8 cents over the past week, with the expectation that prices will hit the top of the price cycle by next week.

The NRMA predicts the cycle will peak in the low 220s in the next seven days, just in time for the school holidays, which start on April 15.Sydney's petrol prices have hit their peak for the first time this year ahead of the school holidays. AMPOL and 7-Eleven service stations across Sydney are charging up to 235.9 for unleaded, according to the NSW Government's petrol price comparison site, FuelCheck.

TEMPCO petrol station in Greenacre has the cheapest unleaded petrol, at 177.1 cents per litre, followed by Metro in Yagoona at 177.9 cents.The average diesel price in Sydney is currently 200.5 cents per litre, which is 0.4 cents cheaper than last week.The increase in fuel price is a natural part of the Petrol Price Cycle, which is a "result of pricing policies of petrol retailers and not from changes in the wholesale cost of fuel," according to the ACCC.
