Emergency services descended on the A583 Blackpool Road in Kirkham following a report of a collision near to Kirkham Grammar School. Lancashire Constabulary said their officers found that a Toyota Aygo car had been in collision with an Isuzu Grafter Box van.
The driver of the Toyota, a woman in her 80s, suffered 'serious injuries' and is in a 'critical condition' in hospital. The incident happened at 11.30am on Friday and resulted in the road being closed in both directions for several hours.According to eyewitnesses, an air ambulance also landed at the scene.
No other injuries were reported and no arrests have been made. Police are now appealing for witnesses and footage. In a statement issued last night, a force spokesperson said: "If you witnessed the collision or have dashcam footage from the area around the time, please contact police.
