The tweet received a lot of criticism online

The Law Department of NUI Maynooth has apologised for tweet it sent to a student on Saturday evening.

Asked by a student about an exam timetable which saw two major exams take place one day after another, the account responded:"First, we don't make the timetable. Second, assuming you have been studying all year, and not leaving things to the last minute, it shouldn't be a problem. Third, you do remember the Leaving Cert, right?"

The original question had also pointed out that stressful exam timetables can affect the mental health of students. Following a widespread backlash against their response, the university has deleted the tweet and issued an apology on Twitter, which reads:"The Department apologises unreservedly for the tweet to Clare McCarrick. It was intended to be funny. It wasn't. It was ill-judged and unthoughtful. Crucially, it does not reflect our approach to student support, which we treat with the utmost importance, at all times.". It was intended to be funny. It wasn't.
