Secretary of Education Betsy Devos' proposal of $17.6 million cut to Special Olympics sends a damaging message to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

that prison inmates are four times as likely to have a cognitive disability than the general population, it being six times more likely for jail inmates.by saying the Special Olympics is funded by both the public and private sector, implying that the federal budget cut will not cause that much collateral damage to the program.

The Special Olympics not only promotes athletic enrichment but also provides social and academic support for children with special needs, who are disproportionally marginalized and excluded from the mainstream education system. DeVos’ proposed budget cut will hurt 272,000 children across the nation, a statistic that she was not aware of. It wasn't her idea It was Mulvaney's (maybe Trump's?) Do some reporting Or read other journalists. Like the Times

So what is wrong with a little austerity in a capitalist, jobs, jobs, jobs, stock market boom? The masses are too spoiled...

“Problematic” I love how uneducated folks believe the govt defunding a program = the end of its existence. Special Olympics couldn’t possibly be funded by private ventures like, you know, the other olympics. I guess that takes a brain to understand though. Forbes = Slate now

Relax Forbes. We only propose it because we know private entities will come to the rescue...It's no indication of what's in our heart, Jesus...

The. Cruelty. Is. The. Point.

That is the only problem? She herself is has been a huge problem from the start.

The Trump administration has no problems cutting nickels and dimes from the budget which affect people who need it the most while squandering billions on stupid things like walls.

Betsy DeVos: Deep cuts to Special Olympics, student programs warrantedIn the case of the $17.6 million cut to help fund the Special Olympics, DeVos suggested it is better supported by philanthropy and added, 'We had to make some difficult decisions with this budget.' Like many, I'm an active supporter of Public Education. I'm also honest. The Department of Education has gotten politicized, bloated, (far too) intrusive, and disfunctional. DeVos is the first Secretary to not only admit it, but act to change it. BetsyDeVosED I’m sorry, but you are wrong on this. Our public schools must be fixed before advocating for more charter schools. And remove Special Olympic funding? Follow Tank Schutte on Twitter, see how much being a special Olympian means.
