Rishi Sunak today insisted he was delivering on his childcare pledge as the first parents in England began to benefit from 15 hours per week of free care for two-year-olds.

The party pointed to analysis that showed childcare places fell by more than 1,000 between March and December last year. Marking the start of the policy, which came into effect on Monday, Mr Sunak claimed his plans would 'help to grow our economy' by freeing up parents to work.
