And while all regional centres for education have a universal breakfast program, it’s a different story when it comes to what’s available to students at lunchtime. The province’s Department of Education, however, said the program’s details are still being worked out and stressed affordability is top of mind when it comes to the program.

Corbin said while the plan will have certain guidelines and requirements, she hopes there will be local flexibility and adaptability. There are also pilot projects, such as fresh food carts, resulting from a partnership between the Department of Agriculture and Department of Education.
