Leaders at the University of Bolton are pressing ahead with controversial plans to remove the town from its name. The organisation’s Office for Students has launched a consultation on a proposal to change its name to the University of Greater Manchester.
Michelle Bamford said: “I’m proud to be University of Bolton alumni. I won’t be telling people I attended the University of Greater Manchester. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” Another visiting professor to the university said: “I want it to stay with that name. "The governors of the university unanimously resolved to change the name in order that we can best serve our borough by continuing to grow and succeed with the due prominence that the new title will help to give.”
