SYDNEY — Cape Breton University says it’s on course for its medical school, which is set to have its first students begin in August 2025.
P.E.I.’s medical school is a satellite campus of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Memorial University, whereas the CBU medical school is linked to Dalhousie University in Halifax. Preceptors, according to Dalhousie’s Faculty of Medicine’s website, are experienced practitioners who provide supervision during clinical practice and facilitate the application of theory to practice for students.“I think that Dalhousie University has a lot of experience doing this and even fairly recently within the New Brunswick campus. So they would be well aware of the resources that are required,” Audain said.
“But if you don't have a family doctor today, it's of no help to you. And sometimes we forget because it's not giving us any immediate support or help, we forget that this is actually a very good thing for the province. It's just that it will take some time to realize that,” Audain said of the process of getting the new school going.
