A school bus carrying over 40 children and a concrete truck were involved in a 'multiple fatality' crash on a Texas state highway.

A Hays CISD bus carrying 44 pre-K students and 11 adults from Tom Green Elementary School crashed with a concrete truck on State Highway 21 in Bastrop County, resulting in at least two fatalities and multiple injuries. on a Texas state highway near the Travis/Barstrop County line.

Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the scene to provide mutual aid. It happened near the intersection with Caldwell Road at 2:17 p.m. ATCEMS said at least 40 people were involved in the crash. STAR Flight helicopters took four patients to the hospital, and two more were taken by ambulance. Additional patients were reportedly transported by other agencies.

According to a statement from Hays CISD, the bus was carrying 44 pre-K students and 11 adults from Tom Green Elementary School who were returning from a field trip to the Bastrop Zoo.Drivers should avoid the area and expect closures as a “large amount” of first responders are expected to work the scene. Traffic will detour using FM 1854, SH 20 and FM 812, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
