Officials said more than 40 patients were involved, and KVUE has confirmed that 32 people have been transported from the scene to a hospital.

All lanes in both directions of SH 21 at Caldwell Road are closed. Traffic will detour using FM 1854, SH 20 and FM 812, but drivers are asked to avoid the area.

Austin-Travis County EMS said at around 2:50 p.m. that its medics were assisting with the rollover on West State Highway 21, near Caldwell Road and just southeast of Highway 130, in Bastrop County. That site is near the Mustang Ridge area. Hays CISD confirmed that a bus carrying Tom Green Elementary School pre-K students was involved in the crash. The students were returning from a field trip to the Bastrop Zoo. Forty-four students and 11 adults were on the bus.

Hays CISD said the parents of students on the bus have been notified by Tom Green Elementary, and the district is in the process of reunification.
