Corner Brook fish harvester protest | SaltWire #cornerbrook #newfoundland #fishermen #harvestersFive Halifax elementary school students were taken to hospital Wednesday afternoon after they ate cannabis edibles that one of them brought to the school.

Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. John MacLeod said it's not know yet how many of the edibles each student consumed at Springvale Elementary School on Downs Avenue. He didn't have the ages of the students, but the school has students from grades Primary to 6.How the student got the edibles and brought them to school is under investigation. MacLeod said there is no legislation setting out how edibles are to be stored in homes.

He said the incident is a warning to students not to take unknown substances offered by others or found lying around. "It's the same conversation around prescription medication and alcohol, those things are for grownups and certainly children should be told not to get into them, and parents should makes sure they're in a secure place that kids can't access them."
