When their alarms went off before 4am on Thursday morning, Emily Chad and Annabelle Woodmore had no trouble getting ready to go to school. This was no ordinary day, and the best friends were on a mission.

Once at the showgrounds, shirts tucked and Akubras in place, the girls prepared to enter Cotton Candy and No.32 Red Tag in the school sheep pairs competition, which looks for the most similar two animals. Annabelle Woodmore and Emily Chad compete in the sheep pairs competition.Last year, 1450 students studied agriculture for the HSC, out of 68,689 candidates, with slightly more girls than boys enrolling. The number of enrolments has remained relatively steady over the past five years.

The Macarthur Anglican School agriculture show team has more than doubled in size over the past 12 years.He said agriculture was a good subject to study because so many career opportunities could come from it.
