Year 13 pupil Raphaël Pryor was playing the historic Field Game on SaturdayThe parents of an Eton College schoolboy who tragically died after collapsing on the playing fields at the weekend have today paid tribute to their 'kind' son and only child.
Raphaël's father, who was a former pupil, is reported to have been playing on a nearby pitch when his son collapsed. 'He brought a fast-growing emotional intelligence to everything he did. He even surprised us by excelling in a leading role in a play last Autumn.'He was to spend the winter as a ski instructor and hoped to read French and History at university.
'He had the brightest of futures ahead of him. In his life at Eton, Raphaël brought so much to his friends and to those who taught and cared for him, including to those who played with and against him on the games field, where he excelled as one of the House Captains of Games. 'House Masters have broken this news to boys this morning. We know that boys, staff and parents will be deeply saddened and shocked. Boys are being supported by our house and pastoral teams and we also have specialist counselling provision available on site, today and beyond.
The ball is round, but one size smaller than a standard football, and may not be handled – but the off-side rules – known as 'sneaking' – are more in keeping with rugby.
