There was once a point in Amal Wakim’s life when she wouldn’t eat her own birthday cake. The co-founder of nutrition app Equalution has worked hard to form a better relationship with food — but now she’s concerned about the impact that banning foods in school canteens will have on Australian children. Under controversial changes to WA’s school food and drink rules, the sale of products containing processed meat has been restricted.

Research shows that those who dieters gain back more than half the lost weight within two years on average, and more than 80 per cent of the lost weight by five years. “Scientific evidence shows diets don’t work,” Wakim said. Eliminating entire food groups can trigger intense cravings, Wakim said, and people often end up eating more of the foods when they get the chance to do so.
