50 firefighters have attended the scene of a blaze at a former school in Derry. The fire happened at the derelict premises, the former Lisneal College at Drumahoe Road, on Sunday night, March 3. Police say the fire is being treated as 'arson'.

50 firefighters have attended the scene of a blaze at a former school in Derry. The fire happened at the derelict premises, the former Lisneal College at Drumahoe Road, on Sunday night, March 3. At the time of the incident, local residents were advised to stay away from the area. In an update, a Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson told Belfast Live that the incident concluded at 11:52pm, and the cause was determined as "deliberate ignition".

They added: "The fire involved a three storey section of a derelict building and required 12 breathing apparatus wearers to be deployed." Police say the fire is being treated as 'arson'. Officers were called to the scene on Drumahoe Road shortly after 9pm on Sunday. A PSNI spokesperson said: "Fortunately, there have been no reports of any injuries. However, there has been significant damage to the building as a result of the blaze.
