Toronto school boards are facing difficulties in constructing child-care centres due to lack of funds. The Ontario government criticizes their slow progress after seven years of delay. The Toronto District School Board's planning and priorities committee is awaiting approval from the Ministry of Education for 11 centres. Additionally, the estimated costs for 17 other centres have exceeded the initial funding by almost 50%. These centres were expected to provide over 1,000 child-care spaces in areas with high demand for subsidized child care.
