ASD budget passes without cuts to IGNITE gifted learning program

ByANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Anchorage School Board passed its 2024-2025 budget on Tuesday in a special meeting inside the Anchorage Education Center.

In a 6-1 vote, the school board passed an amended budget that rolled back several proposals that would have resulted in increased class sizes and little support for the IGNITE program, which offers gifted learners a higher-level curriculum.

In the weeks leading to Tuesday’s vote, the proposal to slash IGNITE funding was met with strong pushback from community members.
