“Breaks my heart this is just about money,” the governor said. “We got half the job done. But if it’s just going to be about money and nothing else, I’m not interested in this bill becoming law.” There are 14 days left before the bill becomes law, and in Dunleavy’s “optimistic” view, changes could be made. The governor became upset at times that in his view the bill — which includes a historic per-student funding increase — falls short.The 14-day deadline is March 12. Multiple lawmakers had expressed concern if a bill was not signed into law by this Wednesday, Feb. 28, a provision in the bill dealing with grants for speeding up rural school internet, would be missed.Copyright 2024 KTUU.
