The Chicago Board of Education voted unanimously on Thursday to remove school resource officers from Chicago Public Schools, with the removal of the officers required by the start of next school year.

Though the issue has sparked fierce debate, only 39 of the district's 634 schools currently utilize school resource officers. "Every school doesn't have to have them, but some schools need them," 24th Ward Ald. Monique Scott said."I plead with this board to give the principals an option to have security resource officers," Coleman said."You did not talk to the community about what we wanted. You decided," Truss said."When they get in that school, they feel safe, know they won't get jumped on, they know they're not gonna get knifed," Truss said.
