The local chapter of ASUU had petitioned the supervising ministry, alleging failure to provide infrastructure in the institution, illegal recruitment, and misappropriation of funds by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Kayode Soremekun.
However, the ministry was said to have exonerated the VC. Sources at the institution said Soremekun had denied all the allegations in a letter to the Minister of Education Alhaji Adamu Adamu.Soremekun also said that “the petitioners failed to consult the ASUU Congress before sending the petition through the national body to the Minister of Education which made members to believe that there was a deliberate attempt to mislead the Minister about the happenings in the university”.
The Acting Secretary of the local chapter of the union, Dr Ademola Akinsorotan, said the local chairman, Dr Akinyemi Omonijo, had been called to order several times over the way he was running the union, which allegedly forced the former Secretary to resign his appointment. Contacted, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Abayomi Fasina, confirmed that the Federal Ministry of Education had waded into the face-off.
