As much as half of one town in the Grampians has been burnt to the ground, including the only school.

Premier Jacinta Allan told ABC Melbourne Radio the revised count of lost homes in the"People who know that beautiful part of the Grampians know that Pomonal is a little community so that is a significant proportion – perhaps as much as half of the town has experienced loss," Allan told ABC Radio Melbourne.The official count of properties destroyed by Victoria's bushfires has risen to 44.

Yesterday it was confirmed 24 homes, a business and a primary school were destroyed in Pomonal, which was estimated to be 40 per cent of the town.READ MORE:after their truck was overwhelmed in an unexpected burn-over while fighting the fires in the Grampians National Park on Tuesday.At 8pm last night, 44,000 were still without power after ferocious storms caused major electrical transmission lines and power generators to fail.
