The Utah Board of Education has scheduled a closed-door meeting as board member Natalie Cline continues to draw criticism for her social media posts.

Utah State Board of Education Natalie Cline's Facebook page is seen Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024. The Utah Board of Education has scheduled a closed-door meeting for Wednesday as board member Natalie Cline continues to draw criticism for her social media posts - specifically one that led to a high school student being targeted online for her appearance.

According to the board's bylaws, a member who has a conflict of interest isn't allowed into closed-door meetings on the matters dealing with said conflict. However, the board hasn't disclosed if Cline's situation falls under those rules. Cline, who won the seat in 2020 during Utah's first partisan board of education election, has been investigated three times for previous posts that made false claims and incited online furore. She has been cleared each time, with constitutional free speech playing the major role in those decisions, despite the USBE's bylaws detailing social media conduct by its members:

The Utah Media Coalition on Monday penned a letter urging the state Board of Education to hold the meeting openly.
