The Rochester City School Board held a meeting Tuesday night, approving new names for seven city schools.
schoolsRCSD Superintendent Dr. Carmine Peluso presented the budget as the district addressed a decline in enrollment and federal COVID-19 relief money coming to an end. One school that will have a new name in the new school year is Franklin High School, which will be closing and reopening as Padilla High School.
Two elementary schools that were formerly named after a slaveowner and segregationist were also renamed: Ida B. Wells-Barnett Elementary School, 530 Lexington Ave. Names for four new middle schools were also announced:Thurgood Marshall Middle School, 4115 Lake Ave.These new school names will be submitted to the NYS Education Department by March 1. The budget will also have to be submitted to the NYS Monitor by that same date
